Fitbit Inspire 2 vs Inspire 3 Bands: Do They Fit Each Other?

The short answer is no, not by default. Fitbit redesigned the band attachment between the Inspire 2 and the Inspire 3, and Fitbit's own Inspire 3 documentation states that Inspire 2 bands are not compatible with it.

The two trackers look close enough from the front that people order the wrong one constantly, and the band arrives looking correct until you try to click it in. This guide covers how to tell them apart and what to look for when you buy a replacement.

How to tell which Inspire you own

Take the tracker off and turn it over. Most Fitbit devices carry the model name printed on the back of the case, near the charging contacts. That printed name is the thing to trust, not the year you bought it and not what the box said, since Fitbit sold overlapping generations at the same time.

If the printing has worn away, there are two quick visual tells. The Inspire 3 has a colour screen; the Inspire 2 is monochrome. The Inspire 3's case also has slightly different proportions where the band meets the body.

What actually changed

Both trackers use a small spring-loaded connector rather than a standard watch spring bar, but the shape and spacing of that connector differ between generations, so a band built for one will not seat properly in the other.

This catches people out because the names suggest continuity. Inspire 2 to Inspire 3 sounds like an iteration, the way Charge 5 to Charge 6 genuinely is. It isn't, at least not for bands.

Which bands fit the Inspire 2

The Inspire 2 shares its fitting with the original Inspire and the Inspire HR. If you own any of those three, the same bands work across all of them.

Which bands fit the Inspire 3

Bands made specifically for the Inspire 3. Because the connector is proprietary, there is no universal size to fall back on and no millimetre width to measure.

Several of our Inspire bands are made for both groups and carry a model selector on the product page, so you choose Inspire 3 or the Inspire 2, 1 and HR group when you order and we ship the matching connector. That is the safe way to buy if you are not certain: pick your model from the selector rather than guessing from the title.

Choosing a material

Silicone is the default and the right choice for most people. It handles sweat, survives showers and swimming, and wipes clean. If you wear the tracker for sleep tracking as well as workouts, silicone is the one that will not irritate overnight.

Woven nylon is lighter and more breathable, which matters in summer or if you find silicone clammy. It dries faster than leather but slower than silicone after a swim.

Leather smartens the tracker up considerably. The Inspire is small enough that a leather band reads as a bracelet rather than a fitness device, which is the point for a lot of people. Keep it out of water.

Stainless steel mesh gives the dressiest finish and adjusts to an exact fit with a magnetic clasp. It is heavier than silicone, which some people notice during runs and some do not.

Beaded and elastic bracelet bands are a popular option for the Inspire specifically, because the tracker is small enough to disappear into the design.

How to change an Inspire band

Turn the tracker over. Press the small flat button where the band meets the case, then slide the band away from the body. It should release without force; if you are pushing hard, you are pressing the wrong spot.

To fit the new band, line the connector up with the slot and press until it clicks. Do both halves, then give each a gentle tug to confirm they are seated. A band that is only half-clicked will hold for a day and then let go, usually somewhere you will not notice.

A note on fit and accuracy

Wrist heart-rate sensors read best when the tracker sits snug against the skin, about a finger's width above the wrist bone. Too loose and the sensor picks up motion instead of pulse. Too tight and you restrict blood flow, which also skews the reading. A silicone band with closely spaced holes makes that easier to dial in than a stiff leather strap or a mesh band you size once and live with.
