How to measure your lug width
Most watches are sized by lug width: the gap in millimetres where the band attaches to the watch. Take the band off and measure the gap between the two attachment points on the watch with a ruler. Measure the watch, not the old band, because bands are usually cut a fraction narrower than the gap they sit in. That one mistake causes most wrong orders.
As a rough guide, lug width is about half the case diameter: a 40mm watch usually takes 20mm bands and a 44mm watch usually takes 22mm. Check your brand's guide above to be sure.
Watches that don't use a lug width
Apple Watch, Fitbit, Google Pixel Watch, and Samsung Galaxy Watch8, Watch9 and Ultra watches use their own band connectors. Match these by model rather than by millimetres; their guides above show which bands fit.
Garmin is different again. Its watches take either QuickFit or quick release bands, and the two don't swap even at the same width, so check the Garmin guide for both your watch's band type and its width.
