Moissanite gives you the look of a diamond at a fraction of the price, which means you can wear the size you actually want.
Moissanite is less dense than diamond, so a moissanite stone weighs less than a diamond of the same physical size. Carat weight therefore understates how big the stone looks. Millimetre diameter is the number that matters, because that is what people see.
Around 4mm reads as delicate and suits daily wear or a second piercing. Around 5 to 6mm is the everyday sweet spot: clearly visible at conversational distance and comfortable all day. 7mm and above is a statement, and worth considering for weight on the lobe.
Prong settings let in the most light and maximise sparkle; bezel settings protect the stone and catch on nothing. Halo settings make the piece look larger than the centre stone alone. For backs, screw backs are considerably more secure than push backs and are the sensible choice for larger studs.
Moissanite bends light more than diamond, so it throws more coloured fire, most visibly in sunlight. It sits just below diamond in hardness, well above every other jewellery stone, so it handles daily wear without clouding or scratching. At conversational distance the two are difficult to tell apart.
No. Cubic zirconia is considerably softer, scratches with normal wear and goes dull within a year or two. Moissanite keeps its polish indefinitely, which is why it suits everyday jewellery where CZ does not.
Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush, then rinse and dry with a lint-free cloth. Skin oils and product build-up on the underside of the stone are what dull the sparkle, not the stone itself. Take them off before swimming, since chlorine is hard on metal settings.
